Happy New Year!!! Memefest is an amazing organisation/event/friendly competition that I’ve been partnered with for many years. Based in Slovenia, with nodes spread out internationally (remarkably and importantly, outside of traditional centres of “power”), Memefest explores the boundaries of communication practice, pushing for radical approaches that operate outside of the conventional/commercial/advertising model.

After a year of planning and restructuring, Memefest is back with a brand new website, competition and book project. I’ve had the honour of acting as a jury member of the festival for the last 5 years, and I’m really excited to be working with them again this year as a curator. I highly encourage readers of this blog to check out the site and enter the competition, as the deadline (Jan. 20th) is coming up FAST!

This year’s theme is Love/Conflict/Imagination.

What is the relationship between love and power?
What is the relationship between power and conflict?
What is the relationship between love and conflict?

A juicy topic if there ever was one… I’m really looking forward to seeing all the submissions. To me, memefest represents the avant-garde of contemporary communications practice, and I’m really excited to once again be a part of it. Good luck!

This year’s festival visuals have been designed by the amazing Brisbane-based studio Inkahoots.
