I just picked up my print from Omen and I gotta say I’m really pleased. I can’t wait to get this sucka framed and on the wall! He’s got some great stuff going on for him right now, and I’ll be riding this piece to my early retirement.

Hand Made Font

An interesting and brilliant idea by Estonian designers Vladimir and Maksim Loginov. Picking up on current trends, they offer a wide selection of “hand made fonts” available for purchase, download and use. Each letter is an incredibly detailed, beautifully rendered piece of work, check out Skeleton, for example. There’s definitely some bad mixed in with the good, and I find the prices a bit steep, but the concept and execution are top notch.

Have a look for yourself!

I discovered this BEAUTIFUL song by Adem over the weekend and now I can’t get it out of my head. So I thought I’d share… A melding and reinterpretation of two Aphex Twin classics into a beautiful (yes, I say it again), dreamy, hope-filled ‘folk’ song. Impressive and inspiring…

To cure a weakling child / Boy / Girl Song (MP3)

The song is from his latest album, ‘Takes’, which features 12 cover versions of songs from 1991-2001. His eclectic selection of artists and songs, including Yo la Tengo, Smashing Pumpkins, Tortoise, PJ Harvey and Low, seems spot on. Can’t wait to pick it up.

Now that I’ve stopped smoking, I find it harder to focus and my mind wanders a lot more than usual. 5 hours sleep also doesn’t help much either. Luckily, a rare slow work day and the internet is perfect for this mental state, and I think this “blog” could use a little update. so…

I’m loving Nick Deakin‘s illustrations. Some of his work reminds me a bit of…

Pelican Books Cover Gallery

Pelican BooksThe very interesting Things Magazine website features an amazing gallery of vintage Pelican Book covers from the 1930s to 1980s. According to the Penguin website the Pelican imprint was launched in 1937 to “cover serious contemporary issues and represented the first new and original books to be published by Penguin… The series was weighted towards History, Sociology, Economics and Politics and continued the ‘good books cheap’ philosophy of Penguin.”

The extensive gallery is an amazing historical and aesthetic archive. The 1960s collection is particularly revealing of the revolutionary nature (both technological and cultural) of the times.

Also worth checking out is David Pearson Design‘s recent work for Penguin, especially the Great Ideas series (direct links here, here, and here) . Mmmm… debossed type on uncoated paper stock. Beautiful…

James Jean for Prada

Stunningly beautiful illustrative artwork by James jean over at Process Recess. His site is engrossing and I love seeing the process through which his sketches turn into finished works. Seeing his work makes me want to draw a lot more while at the same time gets me asking, “why even bother?” A very, very talented individual…

Also check out his professional portfolio and his collaboration with painter Kenichi Hoshine over at a polite winter.
