Oh these tumultuous times!

The last month has been hectic to say the very least. Work, life and love have conspired against me to throw most of my preconceptions into the wind. Let’s see if I land on my feet. Out of that maelstrom, a little beleaguered news:

First off, I’ve moved yet again. This time into a nice little apartment/studio in my favourite hood in Montreal. The studio shots I promised way back when will have to wait… My new address is:

5380 ave. du Parc, #3
Montréal, Québec
H2V 4G7

Please send all love letters here…

Before getting into what I’ve been working on over the last little while, I wanted to announce that John and I will be tabling yet again at Expozine THIS WEEKEND (November 14-15). This year’s edition seems to be shaping up great, with a bunch of ancillary events and an opening party tomorrow night! Though we don’t have a new issue out, we’ll be selling copies of issues eight, nine and ten at reduced prices alongside a series of fresh posters and prints. We’ll have some information and previews for the eagerly anticipated next issue. John will also have a couple of other projects he’s been working on with his collaborators in the music scene. I haven’t seen ’em yet, but I’m sure they’ll be great!

I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone there, please stop by and say hello!

Now, looking back…

Artivistic was an intense, stressful, but rewarding experience. Emotions ran the gamut during the event, culminating in a vigorous and exhausting confrontation around censorship that resulted in a last minute change of venue and the realisation of several impressive autonomous initiatives. We met a lot of great people, learned a lot, and certainly still have a lot to learn, and in that sense, the event was a success.

From a design perspective, I applied the jpg hacking technique I discovered earlier across the full-range of promotional materials to some satisfying and dare I say original results. I hope to post more on this in a full portfolio entry soon.

At Fjord/Cossette (which is going through its own tumultuous times for those of you interested in the Canadian media landscape…), we’ve just launched a project I’ve been working on for the last 5 months. An institutional website for Université de Montréal with the goal of communicating the university’s agressive initiative to upgrade all its infrastructural technology, and manage the cultural shift that’s associated to such a dramatic change. We attempted to humanise what might seem at first like dry, technical information and engage the audience through a rich interactive experience. Hopefully we’ve succeeded, and I’d like to give a heartfelt shout-out to the entire team.

On the flip side in terms of scope, I recently completed the design of a small site for film maker Sophie Déraspe/Films Siamois. With an incredibly tight deadline, I worked closely with my old Bluesponge buddies Emilie and Pat to deliver a tidy little microsite to showcase her new feature film Les Signes Vitaux. Its always a pleasure to work with such talented artisans.

Check out the Films Siamois website here.

On a personal note, without getting too personal, I want to sincerely thank everyone who has been helping me get through this transition. You know who you are. And big ups to Montréal and the Mile End, a city (and hood) that has somehow kept me here, when I was more than willing to run away…

The world is a heartbreaker.
