Oh these tumultuous times!
The last month has been hectic to say the very least. Work, life and love have conspired against me to throw most of my preconceptions into the wind. Let’s see if I land on my feet. Out of that maelstrom, a little beleaguered news:
First off, I’ve moved yet again. This time into a nice little apartment/studio in my favourite hood in Montreal. The studio shots I promised way back when will have to wait… My new address is:
5380 ave. du Parc, #3
Montréal, Québec
H2V 4G7
Please send all love letters here…
Before getting into what I’ve been working on over the last little while, I wanted to announce that John and I will be tabling yet again at Expozine THIS WEEKEND (November 14-15). This year’s edition seems to be shaping up great, with a bunch of ancillary events and an opening party tomorrow night! Though we don’t have a new issue out, we’ll be selling copies of issues eight, nine and ten at reduced prices alongside a series of fresh posters and prints. We’ll have some information and previews for the eagerly anticipated next issue. John will also have a couple of other projects he’s been working on with his collaborators in the music scene. I haven’t seen ’em yet, but I’m sure they’ll be great!
I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone there, please stop by and say hello!

Artivistic 2009: TURN *ON
The 4th edition of Artivistic: TURN *ON is right around the corner. Artivistic is a collective working on issues at the intersection of art, information and activism that I’ve been involved with for the last couple of years. This year’s gathering, taking place from Thursday, Oct 15th through to Saturday the 17th, brings together over 40 international artists and activists dealing with (and playing upon) the myriad questions raised by themes of sexuality and eroticism.
It promises to be three intense days and nights filled with performances, workshops, installations and dialogues that will challenge stereotypes and our own constructed sexual limitations. Check out the website for more details and RSVP to the event on facebook to stay abreast of all the various happenings.
More to cum…
Ravenswing recap
Ravenswing was a great success today and Cat and I really enjoyed our time in Ottawa. Many thanks to the beautiful, hard working people who put it all together and to Colin for being a great host and table mate. To be honest, I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and enthusiasm of the crowd. My perception of Ottawa as a sleepy government town has certainly shifted a bit.
I was happy to see fellow Montreal zinester Lisa Hoffman there with a ton of new work on display and reconnect with fellow Concordia grad Catherine Pearce who’s been making some beautiful jewelry pieces.
Sincere thanks to everyone who put down some hard earned cash to pick up a zine or a poster today. I’d love to know what you think of them, so please feel free to contact me. We’ll definitely be back again next year, hopefully with a new issue in tow.
Check out some more pictures here of a damn fine day.
PS. So Good was very good, thanks for the reco John! The Pepper squid was exquisite!

LICKETY SPLIT NO. 7 (THE BEYOND HUMAN ISSUE) !!!
The Expozine awards gala took place at Casa del Popolo (who, btw, could really use our support right now) last night to much fanfare, and we want to send our heartfelt congratulations to Amber and the LS team for grabbing the title of Best English language zine! Amber’s an amazing partner in crime, and Lickety Split is a much needed sex-positive salve against conservatism, censorship, and boredom everywhere. Congrats grrrls!!!

Though Issue 10 is not officially launched yet (see below), we did give a copy to the fine folks at Expozine last November for their perusal and evaluation. And we’re happy to announce that we’ve been officially nominated in the category of Best English Language Zine! Again! Issue 7 took home the honours many moons ago, and I don’t know if that helps or hinders our chances, but we’re very excited to be in the running again alongside our friends at Lickety Split and Place Magazine.
The Awards Gala is this coming Tuesday, March 3 at Casa del Popolo, 4873 St-Laurent in Montreal. 7pm! Admission is free and beer and liquor specials will be in effect all night. Check the Facebook event page here.

Boomerang Awards 2008
Festival TransAmériques Website
Yes, I have a day job… and at times, it’s a drag. The day to day grind to make a buck takes its toll on everyone I suppose, but I think I have a severe, innate aversion to the 9-5 (or 10-7). Yet sometimes, as was the case at last week’s Boomerang awards, that feeling subsides for a bit and I’ll step out to appreciate the rewards and recognition from my peers in the industry. I had the honour of being awarded two grand prizes for two very different websites I art directed/designed over the last year. The team behind both these projects, from IA to integration, gave a superhuman effort, so I think a little ego-stroking is in order…

Expozine 2008 recap
WOW! what a weekend… I’ve been participating in Expozine for the last 4 years and I honestly think that this year was the best one yet. The atmosphere was really great, and though the place was packed, it seemed easier to circulate and socialise than previous years. We did really well at our tables and met a ton of great, creative, friendly people.
Before I give props to our awesome corner, I think it’s important to give due credit to the crew of Archive Montreal (both past and present) who have worked so hard to make it all happen over the last seven years (for what I’m sure has been little monetary reward). Their personalities and energy imbue this festival with such an open, supportive and progressive community spirit that will keep it from ever becoming a snooty, trendy, book fair. Expozine really is by the people, for the people in the best possible way. So, to Billy, Dave, MC, Louis, Andy and all the other volunteers that I’m unaware of, a heartfelt thank you. You represent exactly why I love Montreal.
